Happy 4th of July
HINTS and TIPS

July 4th is a special day for the USA.  It is our Independence Day.  We celebrate this great Country we live in and we want to share our celebrations with everyone.

Enjoy the day with family and friends, a cook out, fireworks and more.  Try our Strawberry Salad recipe and WOW your friends.

Today is also a day to remember and to honor those that serve in the military working to keep our Country safe and preserve our freedoms.  Not just here in the USA, but all across the world.  The sacrifice they and their families make is the ultimate gift.  Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

A big THANKS to all of them

SNEAK PEAK of what's coming soon

Looking for some fun projects for summer vacations?  Something to do with the kids on a rainy day?  Pillowcases are great fun.  Quick and easy to do and you can make them elegant for gifts, soft for holding or funky fun for kids.  Slumber parties are also a great time for pillow cases.  Get the simple white ones and let everyone write messages to each other or have a mini sewing class and let them each construct their own.  No matter how you do it kids of all ages love pillowcases.  Be really adventurous and gather your friends for a sewing day and then donate them to the local hospital or children's shelter.  A great way to give back some of our talents.

Our own Allene Snow from Snowlady Designs provided a great pattern idea to get you started.  CLICK HERE for the page with lots of great project ideas.

It is time to start some of our Holiday and gift giving sewing.  Pack your ideas into zip lock bags with all the fabric, stabilizer and designs so it is ready to grab on a rainy day and get started.  You will be glad you did when the Holidays come around and there is little time for anything. Zip Lock projects that need final hand work can also be grabbed and taken on vacation to stitch at night.

RECIPE

Strawberry Salad
  • 1 red onion chopped small
  • 4 cups Romaine Lettuce
  • 1-2 cups strawberries
  • 1 cup mayonnaise or Miracle Whip
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 Tbs Poppy Seeds
In a bowl by hand blend the sugar and the mayonnaise or Miracle Whip.  I usually add just a bit of milk to make it a bit more runny.  Just 1 Tbs or less should do it.  You want this to be thick but still able to drizzle over the salad.  Mix well and then add poppy seeds.  Store in refrigerator until ready to use.

Clean and dry the Romaine Lettuce and then add the lettuce and chopped red onion to a covered bowl and store in the refrigerator for several hours.  I make this and the dressing the day before so the flavors combine well.

When ready to serve, put lettuce/onion mixture on a pretty salad plate, slice strawberries over the top in a pretty arrangement, then drizzly lightly with the poppy seed dressing.

Your guests will be amazed at your creativity and the blending of the flavors will have them asking for more.
