This month's project is about embroidery on terry.  When we stitch on specialty fabrics like terry there are often little extra steps we need to take to ensure a good end result.  With terry most times we will start with a nice tearaway and the weight will depend on the number of stitches.  If the design looks too dense and you are worried, use two pieces.  Make a "sandwich" to hoop that consists of tearaway on the bottom, terry in the middle and a water soluble plastic style topper on the top.  I usually let my plastic topper sit out over night so it is a bit crisper.  This topper will help to hold the stitches on top of the terry as you embroider, making for a nice end result.  Use this kind of topper on all fabrics with a nap.  Things like fleece, terry, velvet and so on.  It also helps when you are stitching on knits to keep outlines in exact placement.

Another thought if your towel or any object is too thick to hoop is to hoop the stabilizer and then baste the towel and topper in place.

It's that time of year when we need to think about organizing our sewing rooms for that end of the year push.  School clothing, Holiday sewing and more.  Remember to back up your designs.  Don't just back up to one kind of media either.  Make sure if you use Cd's that you also use another form of storage.  All storage can go bad the same as your computer so it is important you back them up more than one way.   It is never a bad idea to keep a second set in the safe deposit box or such.

Jody suggested you purchase these really nice parts cases from the local lumber or hardware stores to keep all of those little things organized in your sewing room.  Another good use would be a smaller one with machine feet and bobbins and needles in it.

.

Another great though for organization is one of those shoe pouches that are made of canvas and hang on the back of your door.  Hang in near the machine and use the pockets for those tools and rolls we always seem to be misplacing.  Can't find one in the store...make your own.

RECIPE

Jane's Wiggle Pie
  • 1 prepared Graham Cracker Crust
  • 1 large box of Jell-O any flavor follow recipe for water needed
  • 3+ Tbs Cream Cheese Softened
  • 1/2 Cup Cool Whip Topping
  • 1/2 Cup broken Pecan Pieces
  •
Buy or prepare the graham cracker crust and have ready.

Mix Jell-O in mixer bowl.  Jane suggests using ice to speed up the setting process...see box for directions

When Jell-O is semi set, whip with mixer till frothy and color is less intense.  Add the cream cheese and continue to mix.  Add more cream cheese if desired.

When the cream cheese is blended in, stop the mixer and fold in by hand the Cool Whip and pecans. And empty into prepared crumb crust.

Refrigerate till Jell-O is set (several hours).

Jane named this after a small child she baby sat for many years ago.  The little girl dubbed it Wiggle Pie when it wiggled as she cut her fork into it.  Since then it has brought lots of wiggle fun to Jane and her family and friends.
